Computers & HI-FI

This page is about computers and HI-FI, but it will not drone on about boring specks and star trek games.

This page will manily have info on good programs, magazines that are worth buying, games that are worth their money and also some other things in the computing industry that I like.

You could call it a review page, but it has not got a £4.99 price tag, full of stupid adverts, and a demo disk, that the only good use for it is a coffee mug coaster.

GAMES

I have not had time to write about PC games at the moment but I have wrote a little on some PlayStation games.

Grand Theft Auto, This is a fun game, you drive around US citys stealing cars, and commiting crimes, to get points. The graphics are not that good. Game Play 8/10, Graphics 5/10, Lastabilty 6/10 Cheats If you change your name to mademan you will have unlimited everything (lives, weapons, citys, money) Price: £19.99

Mortal Kombat 4, This is a fighting game, much better than MK3, you have weapons and graphics are a lot better, it is good fun to play, the players move a bit fast, and the graphics are nothing compared to Teken 3. Game Play 7/10, Graphics, 7/10, Lastability 7/10. I dont know any cheats for this game at the moment. Price: £24.99 from a local independent retailer, but I have seen it in Currys for £39.99, so shop around.

Micro Machines V3, This game is only good fun when played on multi-player, the tracks are pool tables, breakfast tables, school tables ect. and it is a good laugh to play. Game Play (on multi-player 9/10, Graphics 7/10, Lastability 7/10. I dont know any cheats for this game, it is quite fun without cheats, Price: £19.99

Teken 2, This is a great fighting game, two player or play against the computer, you have various fighters to choose, and get more as you beat the computer, you will think it is the best fighting game - unless you have played Teken 3!!. Game Play 8/10, Graphics 8/10, Lastability 7/10. I dont know any cheats for this game Price £19.99

Wipeout 2097, A racing game, with a diffrence as you are flying around a racing circut. you can pick go over power ups that make you go faster as well as pcik up weapons that last for a certian amout of time. I like this game, I am a bit anoyed that it only has 6 tracks though. Game Play 7/10, Graphics 8/10, Lastability 6/10 (this is because there is only 6 tracks, and it is single player) Price: 19.99

More games are coming soon. If you have a game review, that you want putting on this page, or know a good cheat email it to me: [email protected]

PROGRAMS

At the moment Microsoft seems to dominate the computer software industry, with many good programmes, at the moment I am using front-page express which came with my Freeserve disk. You can go to their web site to find out about them a bit more: www.microsoft.com. If I was to list all the Microsoft programmes available to buy then I would be wasting my time, as you can pick up any software retailer stock list and they would be there. Or you could pop into your local computer retailer and they would be more than delighted to sell you Microsoft stuff.

Another company that make good WP's spread sheets etc are Lotus, I got a copy of Word Pro 97 off a magazine cover (PC advisor), and brought a copy of Smart Suite form a Auction. For the money lotus are a better bet than Microsoft if you are on a budget.

I will add some more programmes when I can be bothered to review them, if you like a program please email me and I might mention it on this page [email protected]

MAGAZINES

There are a lot of magazines with a £4.99 price tag that have a useless demo disk and some stuck up writer that thinks he's god. But amongst the millions of crap mags there are a few good ones:

Computer Active, VNU Business Publications 01851 439611 www.computeractive.co.uk

This magazine is the UK's best-selling computer mag, it is not full of jargon and has plenty of reading for only 99p, but it has not got a demo disk (it often has fee mini books though)

PC Advisor, 01795 414836, www.pcadvisor.co.uk

This magazine is the king of cover disks, they always have excellent programmes on the cover disk (suck as Word Pro, Clip art) and the programmes will last you permanently, not 30 days!

Digitiser, Page 670 Channel 4 Tele Text.

This is not so much of a mag as it just a part of C4's Tele Text but it is updated every day has and has the latest reviews on everything to do with games, it has no cover disk, but is free providing you have a T.V. license.

HI-FI

I have not decied what to write about yet, as it would take me to long to do reviews of all th HI-FI you can buy. What HI-FI is a good magazine to read if you want to find out about HI-FI www.whathifi.com

If you want to buy HI-FI, then the best place to go to is Richer Sounds, they do BIG discounts (£100'ss off RRP) and they are listed in the Guiness Book of Records as the worlds bussiest shop in terms of sales per sq foot. I have brough all my stuff from there and have always liked their service. Tel: 0500 333 500, www.richersounds.com
